A physician, medical practitioner or medical doctor practices medicine, and is concerned with maintaining or restoring human health through the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease and injury.

But Swamiji Dr.Commander Selvam is well versed in spiritual medicines and he is the great spiritual healer of people's sufferings. His devotees and followers call him as Doctor, as Dr.Commander Selvam has brought them out of the sufferings from their different kinds of problems. Commander is a military rank which is also sometimes used as a military title depending on the individual customs of a given military service. Commander is also used as a rank or title in some organizations outside of the military, particularly in police and law enforcement.

"Commander" may sometimes be used by laymen, usually applied to the person who is accountable for and holds authority over a group or the attempts of a group to achieve a common goal. The title is also used by Shia Muslims to refer to their first Imam. At the time of an Inter Religious Conference held at South India during the year 1998, a group of Shia Muslims awarded the title of Commander to the Swamiji. They appreciated much about Swamiji's knowledge on the Muslimism and the holy books of Muslimism.

Swamiji got the title "Commander" twice. One time he got it by his Paramilitary service and the other time he got through his spiritual service. He is a born philanthropist. He has donated millions of US dollars for the development of the humanity. He has solved problems of millions of people.
